Obituary for Anita Sue Van Landingham

Anita Sue Van Landingham was born on March 18, 1939 in Palm Beach, Florida to the late Ernest and Edith Van Landingham. She passed away on April 28, 2020 in Novi, Michigan at the age of 81.

Raised in South Florida with her brothers, Sue moved outside of the Washington, D.C. area following school, where she raised her children and worked for a Government contractor. After retiring she moved to Michigan and kept herself busy volunteering with several local organizations.  As a creative person, she was often found planning her next quilting project, resulting in beautiful, handmade gifts and heirlooms.

Sue loved to retreat to her “happy place” in the mountains of western North Carolina to the family summer home. It was a special place where many family memories were made.

A devout woman, Sue was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Her Christian belief influenced her everyday life. She lived a simple life and always thought of others first. A kind, generous and caring woman, she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Sue was the cherished mother of Susan (George) Barnhart and Jeffrey (Sarah) Stevens. Proud grandmother of Bailey Barnhart, Matthew Stevens, Robert Barnhart, Natalie Stevens and Ashley Stevens. Beloved sister of the late Robert (the late Sarah) Van Landingham, the late William (Gwen) Van Landingham and Gary (Teresa) Van Landingham. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A private memorial service will be held in North Carolina at a later date with her cremated remains interred in the family plot at Woodlawn Cemetery in West Palm Beach, Florida.  For those who would like to make a memorial contribution in Sue’s memory, her family suggests a donation to:
