Obituary for Carl Steve Senko

Carl Steve Senko was born on June 22, 1936 in Illinois to the late Steve and Helen Senko. He passed away on June 2, 2019 in West Bloomfield, Michigan at the age of 82.

Carl married the love of his life, Shirley Anne Hoeppner, in October 1960. They bought their first home in Livonia and began their family. A few years later they moved to West Bloomfield, where they remained throughout their lives.

Carl’s main focus through life was to provide for his family. His innate understanding of mechanical functions served him throughout his career as an emissions engineer. He started his employment with AMC, weathering the turbulent automotive industry to retire after 54 years from Chrysler when he was 80.

He instilled a great respect for hard work, resourcefulness, and education in his children. Although not a college graduate himself, he was insistent that each child be afforded that opportunity. They can all recount numerous fond and often funny memories of the family trips that were integrated into his business travel all over the United States, incorporating stops at both major National Parks and minor roadside attractions. His admiration of nature persisted throughout; he was known to take out his camera at a moments’ notice to discuss ‘his’ deer that hung out on his property.

From a young age, Carl developed a love for cars that lasted his lifetime and was a regular topic of discussion with his children and grandchildren. He worked as a mechanic on a pit crew on the stock car circuit during the 60’s, and that genetic love of fast cars has passed down through the generations.

Carl was a one-of-a-kind man, was inquisitive, loved all kinds of music and was known for his quirky personality. He will be deeply missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Carl deeply missed Shirley after she passed. He was the cherished father of Brad (Lori Kinney), Deanna (Brian Thompson) and Kirk. Proud grandpa of Matthew (Kailey Owens), Grant, Alex, Zachary and Nicolis.

Carl’s family will receive friends for a memorial gathering on Sunday, June 9, 2019 from 2-8 pm at the Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 340 N. Pontiac Trail (3 blocks south of Maple Rd) in Walled Lake. His life will be celebrated with a Memorial Service on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 2 pm. Friends may visit the funeral home beginning at 12 pm on Monday.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are appreciated to the Nature Conservancy.
