Obituary for Daniel John Farley

Daniel John Farley, age 66, of Commerce Township, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 27th, 2020 due to ALS.

Dan was born in Jackson Heights, NY on December 27, 1953. He graduated from Holy Cross High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from New York Institute of Technology in New York City.

Dan retired as the Manager of the Legal Records Department from the Office of the Manhattan District Attorney of New York after 19 years of service. A consummate professional, Dan was proud to serve under District Attorney’s Robert Morgenthau and Cyrus Vance, Jr. He was an integral member of the DANY softball team as first basemen. Known for his good-nature, Dan could always be counted on to stand-in for a “suspect line up”.

Dan was kind, generous and devoted to his family and friends. Dan was known lovingly as Duke, Danbo, Boonie, Lolo, and Pooks by those who loved him. Dan and Amie loved to travel. He enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. Dan was a loyal NY Giants and Mets fan. He enjoyed the company of his many friends at the VFW and bowled weekly with the Bayside Yacht Club Bowling League. Dan also played softball locally in Flushing for over 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Shirley Farley. Dan is survived by his wife, Amie, along with his daughter, Julianne and son-in-law Alex Nienberg, and grandchildren Alice and Max; sister Katherine and brother-in-law Michael O’Leary; brother Michael and sister-in-law Maryellen Farley, along with six nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service will be held in Rochester Hills, Michigan. It is with great sadness that we are unable to have a public service due to these extenuating circumstances. A celebration of Dan’s life will be held in New York at a later date.

Donations can be made in Dan’s memory to his favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and ALS of Michigan.
