Obituary for Evan Kenneth Thomas

Evan Kenneth Thomas of Salt Lake City, Utah, formerly of Commerce Township, MI was born July 17, 1996 in Commerce Township, Michigan to Jeffrey Kevin and Gail Ann (nee: Strom) Thomas. He died February 29, 2020 at the age of 23.

Evan is survived by his parents Jeffrey (Kerri) Thomas and Gail Thomas. Loving brother of Max Thomas and Spencer Thomas. Grandson of Alexander (the late Ann) Thomas and Harriet (the late Kenneth) Strom. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and friends.

Evan was a 2014 Walled Lake Central Graduate who graduated early to pursue his dream of moving to Utah and becoming a competitive snow boarder. In 2016 he won the National Amateur Snowboarding Championship in Slope Style. He was currently attending the University of Utah studying Mechanical Engineering. He was extremely smart and excelled in many subjects in both his high school and college courses.

Evan was an avid outdoor enthusiast and was very adventurous. He loved camping, hiking, mountain climbing, water-sports such as wake surfing and wake boarding and attending music festivals with his friends from both Michigan and Utah. When he was younger he was fearless and tried everything from hockey, golf, swimming, soccer, baseball and even choir and orchestra. Growing up he was the typical little brother who sought out attention by pestering his older siblings and over time those habits grew into a loving relationship. While he was adventurous and very active, his favorite thing to do was just “chill.” He was known to have a kind soul, always had a smile on his face and always willing to help others He lived more in his 23 years of life than many others who live to be older. When he would come home to Michigan, his friends would be waiting in the driveway for him to return. Some have said home isn’t a place, but rather, a person and for many, Evan was their home.

Funeral from St. Clement Ohridski Eastern Orthodox Church, 19600 Ford Rd. Dearborn, Saturday 11:30 AM (In State 10:45 AM). Interment Grand Lawn Cemetery, Detroit.
