Obituary for George Andrew Piper

George A. Piper was born on August 26, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland, the oldest child of Ruth and George Piper. George passed away on March 3, 2019 in Commerce Township, Michigan at the age of 73.

George was raised in Peoria, Illinois before moving to Michigan to become a Spartan. He proudly received his Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan State University in 1967 and remained an avid fan until the end. While at MSU, he met Susan Gervais, and they married in September 1969. George also earned his Masters Degree from Central Michigan University. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam.

After Vietnam, George and Sue settled in West Bloomfield to raise their family, spending 36 years on Green Lake. George worked for over 30 years at Ziegenbein and Associates, retiring only recently. One of his greatest passions was tending to his yard and gardens. In the summer he was a fixture on Green Lake sailing and enjoying the warm Michigan summers. George was also well known among his family and friends for his love of animals, and he was always looking to add to his menagerie at home.

George was the loving husband of Sue for nearly 50 years. Cherished father of Joy, Amy and Drew Piper. Dear brother of Anne (Dewey) Harris.

George’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Orchard Lake Community Presbyterian Church, 5171 Commerce Rd. in Orchard Lake. The service will begin at 12 pm, with a gathering beginning at 11 am.
