Obituary for James Ronald Collins

Born to Robert and Ruth Collins on October 31, 1952, James Ronald(Jim/Ronnie/JC) Collins, brother to Robert, husband to Josie, father to Andrea, James, and Cord, father-in-law to Kim, and Papa to Logan and Paisley. Peacefully passed away on Thursday May 13, 2021 at Henry Ford Hospital in West Bloomfield, Michigan, surrounded by his wife, children and Daughter-in-law.

Jim was born in Dalton Georgia, where he is known to this day as Ronnie/Ron by all of his family that still live there. Raised in the metro Detroit area, he graduated from Livonia Franklin High School in 1970. He went from playing baseball in the streets of Detroit with his brother Bob and other childhood friends, to working at the local grocer after school and to being the stage manager with one of the most popular bands in the area, Salem Witchcraft, for several years where he was lovingly known as JC.

James met the love of his life while working for the band, and after roughly a year and a half of dating/engagement James Collins married Josephine Rucinski on September 16, 1978. Jim and Josie started their family in Redford on Curtis street. They moved the family to Commerce in 1994 to raise their children, where you could find him working in the yard or down by the lake teaching his children what he loved. Jim was always quick to make a new friend or invite his neighbors over for a bonfire, where he would always have another story to tell and fire up the blender to make daiquiris for everyone. He always did his best to provide the best life for his children and family.

Jim will always be remembered as a great man by all who knew him whether they called him husband, dad, brother, uncle, friend, even those of us who knew him as “that guy” and his most favorite title, papa.

James Ronald Collins will be laid to rest on Friday, May 21st at a private ceremony in Commerce Township. A Celebration of his life will be held on Sunday May 23rd.

In lieu of flowers the family would like invite anyone who would like to, to make a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Liver Foundation (ALF) in James name.
