Obituary for John "Jack" William O'Connell

John "Jack" William O'Connell, age 79, died at home July 10, 2020. Beloved husband of 39 years to Lee. Loving father of Johnene (Chandru) Koganti. Grandfather of Navya and Raveena. Preceded in death by his grandson, Tarun. Father of Michael O'Connell. Brother of Terry Baumeister. Survived by cousins Thomas O'Connell of Michigan and Sheila O'Grady of Colorado, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. 

Jack was born February 16, 1941 in Dearborn, Michigan to William and Mary (nee Manion) O'Connell. Jack was a 1958 graduate of Fordson High School. His vocation and avocation was aviation. Professionally for 42 years in air traffic control and as regional director of the National Association of Air Traffic Specialists (NAATS). He enjoyed many hours flying as private pilot in his own aircraft. He also enjoyed sailing and skiing. Jack was a long-time member, and served many years as treasurer, of the Livingston Gun Club. He was gifted mechanically and could repair or construct most anything to which he set his mind. 

Jack survived 10 years with a chronic blood disease, fighting valiantly until the end. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. 

Funeral Mass from St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 2201 S. Old 23 Highway, Brighton, Saturday 11 AM. Friends may visit at the church 10 AM until time of service. Interment Fairview Cemetery, Brighton. In lieu of flowers the family encourages those who are able to donate blood, or to financially support the American Red Cross. An Irish wake will be held at a later date due current gathering restrictions.
