Obituary for Leonie McLaughlin

Leonie McLaughlin was born December 27, 1934 in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan to Frederick and Madeleine (nee: Meyer) Froehlich.  She died April 23, 2020 at the age of 85.

Mrs. McLaughlin married the love of her life, the late Edward (d. 2008) on May 2, 1959.  Loving mother of Marianne Walkington (d. 2009) (Michael d. 2019), Sean McLaughlin (Nancy Travis) Cynthia Marsh (Robert) and Maureen McLaughlin. Dear grandmother of Andrew Angerman (Jenny Rotgers) Matthew Angerman (Caralyn West) Molly McLaughlin, Brian McLaughlin, Kevin McLaughlin, Harrison McKay, Madeleine McKay and Benjamin Marsh. She is also survived by extended family members and friends.

Leonie attended St. Joseph Mercy Nursing School and graduated in 1955. She went right to work as a registered nurse with St. Joseph Hospital. She was Edward’s nurse while he recovered from ear surgery and they were married 4 years later. Upon starting a family Leonie worked with the American Red Cross and enjoyed a long career traveling throughout Michigan managing and operating blood drives. If Leonie wasn’t at work you could find her behind her sewing machine, gardening, or cooking for her family. Leonie was an avid University of Michigan football fan, enjoying season tickets with Edward and her family. Leonie battled Alzheimer’s disease the last 15 years of her life; her family was at her bedside when she conquered her disease.

Private committal services will take place with her family.  Interment with her husband will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.

A funeral mass will be held at a later date due to the current restrictions of public gatherings in place due to the COVID -19 Virus.
