Obituary for Lewis Edward Perry

It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Lewis Edward Perry, 80, of New Hudson, Michigan.

Mr. Perry was born on December 14, 1936 in Caro, Michigan to Leland and Florence (Ladd) Perry. He passed away peacefully with his beloved Kathryn by his side on January 12, 2017. Mr. Perry was also a resident of Williamston, Michigan for over 20 years and moved to New Hudson in 1983 and lived there through the rest of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife Kathryn (Keller) and his children, Daniel L. Perry (Jill) of Fowlerville, Richard J. Perry (Judy) of South Lyon, David L. Perry (fiancé Stephanie Ashbaugh) of Hilliard, Florida, and his first wife Judy (Smith) Peterson of Hilliard, Florida. Mr. Perry was also step-father to Scott and Shane McQuillan of Sandusky, Ohio and was an important part of their lives as their only real father figure. Loving Grandfather to Jason Perry, Joseph Perry, Danielle Perry, Clayton Perry, Benjamin Perry, Samuel Perry, John Perry, James Perry, Tiffany Perras, Jennifer Owens and Jason Perry. Mr. Perry also was very proud of his eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Perry was a proud, longtime member of over 55 years of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 324. His career started with Holloway Construction as a mechanic in the late 1950s followed by 16 years at S. D. Solomon & Sons based in Lansing, Michigan where he fined tuned his craft as a heavy equipment mechanic while overseeing shop operations. In 1975 he orchestrated one of the largest heavy equipment auctions in Michigan for S. D. Solomon & Sons. After the Solomon auction, he founded L. E. Perry & Sons in Lansing followed by owning/operating Lew’s Mobil in Williamston, Michigan.

Following his work in Michigan, Mr. Perry worked with one of his best friends, Hank Hendricks in Norwalk, Ohio. In the mid-1980’s Mr. Perry came to work at B & V Construction in Wixom, Michigan where he was able to again work with some of the great, talented mechanics and welders from the old Solomon days while bringing up new talent which he greatly enjoyed.

Lew enjoyed a great social life with friends and family and loved a good joke. His greatest joy came from spending time with his large circle of friends, his loving wife, sons, grandchildren and extended family. He is remembered for a work ethic unmatched by many and would only ask to keep up and give a hard day's work.

Services will be held at Lynch and Sons Funeral Home at 340 N. Pontiac Trail, Walled Lake, Michigan. Visitation hours are Saturday January 21, 2017 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A memorial service will take place on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 11:00 am preceded by visitation at 10:00 am.
