Obituary for Linda Jo Kirby

Linda Jo Kirby (aged 70) of Wixom died on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Hospital of medical complications related to diabetes.

Born July 12, 1949 to Joseph and Elizabeth Spencer at Detroit, MI., Linda is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Bruce A. Kirby. Linda was the mother of the late Dawn and Brianne Kirby and has three living children; Cherie Kirby, Jennifer (Doug) Garrett, and Ashley (James Todd) Cockfield. Linda also leaves behind adored grandchildren Tyler, Kailey, Brianna, Emily, Jacob, Abigail, Callie, Carter, Asher and a precious great-granddaughter Arielle (with another great-grandchild on the way). Linda is also survived by her loving siblings Rachel Spencer, Thomas (Lenore) Spencer, and Mary (Jeff) Nimtz.

Raised in Detroit, Linda became life-long best friends with Suzanne Kempkins (Kirby), and eventually married Sue's younger brother, Bruce. The families grew up just houses apart and spent a great deal of time together. Linda married Bruce on April 24, 1971 upon his return from service in the Navy. After Bruce started working for the Wixom Police Department, Linda also found work with the city of Wixom, eventually becoming deputy and then city clerk. She retired after 25 years working for the city. During that time, she gave birth to five daughters. Two of her girls, Dawn Marie and Brianne Marie preceded Linda in death. Cherie following in her Mom’s footsteps, working for the city of Wixom as a firefighter. Daughters Jennifer and Ashley gave birth to Linda's nine grandchildren (some now adults) who she described as her most treasured gifts. She was happiest when she had her arms wrapped around any one of them. Much of her time was spent crafting, baking, playing, and traveling with her grandchildren and great grandchildren to share in their joy. Her family brought her the most happiness in her life, and visits with her adult siblings Rachel, Thomas, and Mary were some of her most treasured moments. One of the strongest imaginable souls, Linda finally succumbed to her 53-year battle with juvenile diabetes and its effects on April 11, 2020. She will forever be missed.

Due to the current conditions of COVID-19 a 'Celebration of Life' will take place at a later date to be announced.
