Obituary for Marion Ruth Cook

Marion Ruth Cook was born in the pallor of the Killinger family farm in Fowlerville, MI on April 22nd, 1929 to Vernon and Esther Anderson. She went to be with the Lord on April 20th, 2021 at the age of 91.

The daughter of a pastor, Marion grew up in many small towns in Michigan. She graduated from Midland High School in 1947. She attended Greenville College in Greenville, IL where she met Ed on a blind date and married him 8 months later, on June 8, 1948. Later in life, she attended Oakland Community College, taking counseling classes that prepared her to become a Stephen’s Minister at her church. In addition, she was instrumental in helping to launch a grief counseling program at the Elton Black Funeral Home.

Marion was a pioneer in women joining the workforce when she started working for the Steiner Cross Company in 1963 as a secretary; retiring as Office Manager in 1995.

Spending time with family at Captain Cook’s Cove on Lake Huron was one of the things Marion enjoyed the most; which always included swimming, bonfires, singing, good food and a cold Canadian beer! Gathering to watch the sunset on the lake was a family tradition that she insisted everyone took part in.

She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband of 33 years, L. Edward Cook, her parents, brothers, Eldon, John and Lowell Anderson, and her son-in-law Frank Szybala.

She was the loving mother of Amy (Frank) Szybala, Lynn (Walter) Lorang and David (Cathy) Cook. She was the grandmother of Jennifer (Geoff) Flynn, Jennifer (Rick) Foster, David (Bernadette) Szybala, Walter (Meghan) Lorang, David Lorang, Lora (Christopher) Rambow, Douglas (Carminda) Cook and Amy Cook. She also had 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be held. She will be interned at a later date with her husband Edward Cook at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi, Michigan.
