Obituary for Philip Norman Zachos

Philip Norman Zachos of West Bloomfield was born on November 26, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. He died October 14, 2012 at the age of 82.

Mr. Zachos is the beloved husband of 56 years to Rose Marie “Chris”.
Loving father of: Mark (Nancy) Zachos, David (Lynn) Zachos, Paul (Laura) Zachos, John Zachos, and Joe (Debbie) Zachos. Also 9 grandchildren.

Phil Zachos after providing for his loved family and his wife of 56 years and his five sons will be greatly missed. His smile his laugh and his unique sense of humor were one of a kind. Phil had several gifts he shared with those that had the pleasure of knowing him. He was tremendously generous with his time and his talent. He would always be willing to help fix anything that was broken. He could fix anything his five sons broke often with just a few pieces of Grey Tape. He was a hard working man who always provided for his family.
Phil served his country as a proud American Soldier in the Korean War. He served in the 46th MASH unit and often told stories of his experience in helping doctors save the lives of many. Phil returned to MI to pursue his career as a sheet metal worker in local 80. For 40 years fixing and replacing heating and cooling. He loved his career. “Get me a pair of snips” was one of his favorite phrases.
His other talent and love was music. Phil loved to play the organ and could “play by ear” just about any song he wanted to learn. He made sure all his boys had a chance to learn music. He loved to listen to his kids and grand kids play!
Phil also loved to walk, we will miss those long walks with him, where he would tell his stories and tell his jokes. After many years of this terrible disease Phil lost his battle with Alzheimer’s. We know Phil is in a better place. He also loved the Lord and knew him as his savior. Phil often quoted John 1:43 when the Lord said to Philip “ Follow me” Phil is in heaven now smiling down on all of us in a glorified body no longer hindered by this disease. We love him and will miss him.

Funeral mass from Prince of Peace Catholic Church 4300 Walnut Lake Rd. West Bloomfield (West of Orchard Lake Rd.) Saturday 12 Noon. Interment Monday at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Friends may visit Lynch & Sons Funeral Home 340 North Pontiac Trail Walled Lake (3 Blks. S. of Maple Rd.) Friday 4-8 (Prayer Service 7 PM). Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association appreciated.
