Obituary for Reverend Roy James Langset

Reverend Roy J. Langset of Commerce Twp. was born on September 14, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan the only child of Karrol M. and Shirley Blaine (nee: Rowe) Langset. He died December 13, 2012 at age 65.

Reverend Langset is the beloved husband of 42 years to Merry Lynn (nee: Miller). Loving father of Kirk (Susan) Langset, Kari (Travis) Schmuhl, Karole Langset, and the late Rebecca Jo Langset. Dear nephew of Olene Kinney. He is also survived by numerous cousins and his church family.

Reverend Langset was a graduate of Redford High School Class of 1965. Upon graduation he attended Eastern Michigan University where he majored in Political Science. It was while attending Eastern Michigan that he met his wife Merry and they married in 1970. Upon graduation from EMU, Rev. Langset attended Trinity Seminary in Ohio where he earned his Master of Divinity. In June of 1974 he was ordained as a Lutheran Minister and he received his first call to St. Peter Lutheran Church in Trenton, Ohio. He later went to serve at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ridgeville, Ohio and then to St. John Lutheran Church in Capac, Michigan where he served for 10 years. In 1989, Rev. Langset was called to Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Walled Lake where he served as Pastor until his retirement in 2010.

Reverend Langset loved nature and the outdoors. He had a passion for history and reading. He was a loving husband and father, and a devoted pastor who will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral from Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church 2905 S. Commerce Rd. Wolverine Lake Sunday 2 PM (In State 1 PM). Interment Monday 2 PM at Capac Cemetery. Friends may visit Lynch & Sons Funeral Home 340 Pontiac Trail Walled Lake (3 Blks. S. of Maple Rd.) Saturday 3-9 PM. Memorials to Shepherd of the Lakes Church appreciated.
