Obituary for Richard Lawrence Karczewski

On Monday, March 1, 2021, Richard Lawrence Karczewski, husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at the age of 92. Richard was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 15, 1928. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Emilie. They raised two daughters, Lorraine Bond (James W. Bond) and Paula Glidden (Scot L. Glidden). They enjoyed being with their grandchildren, Alan Roberts (Michelle Roberts), Aaron, Alison and Ashley Glidden. He was a journeyman bricklayer in his early career. He was very proud of the many Detroit area buildings he worked on as a young man. After serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict he obtained a degree in Construction Management from Lawrence Technical University and worked the majority of his career in the construction industry as a highly respected manager. He worked with the Brody Group for many years and was responsible for the start of many careers in the trades. Just before retiring he had his own construction company and built several homes, additions and remodels. After retiring, he and Emilie moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to spend the winters near their daughter Lorraine and grandson Alan at Sun City MacDonald Ranch. Richard was the social guy on the golf course and made many dear friends playing golf and entertaining their neighbors. They spent their summers in Commerce Township with their daughter Paula (Scot) and their grandchildren Aaron, Alison and Ashley. There too Richard enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and visiting long time friends, family and neighbors. Most recently they moved back to Michigan to live at Magnolia by the Lakes. A celebration of Richard’s life will be held much later in the year when family can be together.
