Obituary for Roger Cox

Roger Cox, 70, of Waterford, Michigan, passed away on July 3, 2020, and was surrounded by his family.

He was born to parents Earl (Jake) and Alpha Cox, on October 8, 1949, in Hazard, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by both parents, his brother David, and sister Patricia. He is survived by his siblings Paul, Kay, Barbara, Robert, and Ruth. He leaves behind his loving wife Shannon (Baker) and sons Shane and Brandon. His son’s wives Heather and Jaclyn were like daughters to him. He adored his grandchildren Madison, Elijah, Abigail, Scarlett, and Zander.

Roger grew up in Union Lake, Michigan and graduated from Walled Lake Central High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army for the Vietnam War and stationed in Germany in 1969. He was married (to Shannon) in 1969 and they celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage in the fall of 2019.

Roger accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior in the spring of 1973. He loved and studied the Word of God. He started teaching the Bible in 1975 and was a faithful Bible teacher for 45 years.

For his vocation he was an auto worker (GM & Automotive Lighting) for many years. He was also an IBO Specialist for the government (TACOM). He desired a college education and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from Tyndale College in 1995. Roger loyally served in the military for 32 years. He retired as the HHD 210th Military Police Battalion Maintenance Warrant Officer 4 of the Army National Guard in 2008. Many knew and respected him as, “Chief”.

Roger will always be remembered as a loving and faithful husband, father, and friend.

The Funeral services will be held at Lakes Bible Church (309 Decker Rd. Walled Lake, MI 48390) on Saturday, July 11th 2020 at 10:00am for friends (viewing at 9am) and 2:00 pm for family (viewing at 1pm). There will be a meal provided at 12:00 pm for family. A private ceremonial military burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery (4200 Belford Rd. Holly, MI 48442) is scheduled for a later date.

The family requests that all donations go to support Roger’s favorite non-profit organization, Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry (Israel My Glory Publication).
