Obituary for Ruth Anna Krug

Ruth Anna Krug, 93, long time resident of Commerce Township, Michigan passed away peacefully and in the loving care of her husband and children on Wednesday, February 20, 2019.
A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Commerce United Methodist Church, 1155 North Commerce Road, Commerce Township, Michigan. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation gathering starting at 10:00 and after, a luncheon and sharing of stories.
Ruth was born on June 6, 1925. She was the beloved wife of William (Bill) for 66 years; loving mother of Kathleen (Charles) Baldwin, Nancie (Earl) Stoddard, Shirley (Wayne) Schattenkerk and Mary Recla; proud grandmother of Rebecca (Jason) Bullok, Laura Patterson, Victoria and Dylan Baldwin, Jared, Connor and Brenna Schattenkerk and Will and Grace Recla; dearest sister of Charles (Marilyn) and Florence Wells.
Ruth was born and raised in Vassar, Michigan, with her brother and sister, and she graduated from Vassar High School in 1942. She was a proud graduate of Albion College in 1946, worked as a social worker, and then moved to Commerce Township in 1952 after she married Bill. While working to place children into foster care, she and Bill became foster parents to two young sisters, Jean Zubal and Barbara Blue, and raised them through their teenage years.
Ruth was an active member of Commerce United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women for 65 years, including holding office of President and Mission Coordinator. In recent years she was a church greeter. Even though her eyesight was failing, she would recognize and greet members by the sound of their voices.
Ruth’s family has been her greatest pride and joy, especially her husband, her four daughters, her sons-in-law and her 9 grandchildren. Ruth and Bill had a rich life together full of deepest love and true partnership. Her beloved extended family of 40+ family members have gathered every year for 45 years to camp in Michigan. Ruth has attended every one of these reunions. This is one of the many legacies engendering strong family ties that Ruth helped create. Her family will be forever enriched by her guidance and love. She will be missed dearly and never forgotten.
