Obituary for Shirley Jeanne Devine

Shirley Jeanne Devine, nee Tidd, was born on February 4, 1928 in Lansing, Michigan to the late Merritt and Beulah Tidd. She passed away on February 17, 2019 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family, at the age of 91.

A kind hearted, generous, wonderful and loving woman, Shirley worked as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nurse at Providence Hospital in Southfield, for over 23 years. Following her retirement in 1994 she became a full time grandma. Grandma Shirley, as she came to be known, was front row at her grandkids basketball games and orchestra concerts.

In her free time, Shirley enjoyed quilting and gardening and had a passion for cardinals. It was common knowledge if you bought Shirley a gift with a cardinal on it, she would love it.

A devout woman, she was active in her church community. She sang in the choir, preforming solos and serving on the missions committee. Along with Bill, Shirley helped to start Camp Barakel in Fairview, Michigan, serving as the camp nurse and registrar, Camp Barakel continues it’s operations today

Shirley was the beloved wife of William “Bill” Devine, who preceded her in death in 1996. Loving mother of Michele Chynoweth and Rob (Lori) Devine and mother-in-law of the late Rob K. Morrison. Proud Grandma of Keith (Gretchen) Devine, Kathleen (Carter Hatcher) Morrison and Marlee (Chris Jacobs) Morrison and GiGi of Sophia and Rylan Jacobs.

Her family will receive friends for visitation on Friday February 22, 2019 from 3-8 pm at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 340 N. Pontiac Trail (3 blocks south of Maple Rd) in Walled Lake.

Her life will be celebrated with a Funeral Service on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 11 am at the Funeral Home. Friends may visit beginning at 10 am.

Mrs. Devine will be laid to rest with Bill privately at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are appreciated to Camp Barakel or to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
