Obituary for Steven Patrick Barlow

Steven Patrick Barlow was born on November 9, 1984 at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan. He was the youngest child of Dennis and Karen Barlow and the little brother of Stephanie. Steven was a fighter from birth. Born premature, he spent the first few months of his life in the NICU at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak and against the odds, he went onto thrive in life.

As a toddler, Steven would accompany the family to Stephanie’s dance practices and recitals. He would get up in the aisle and dance along with the music. It became evident he had a passion and at five years old, Dennis and Karen enrolled him into a Hip-Hop class at Dance Dynamics in Walled Lake. Steven went on to master all disciplines and discover his lifelong passion.

Steven attended St. William Catholic School and was a 2003 graduate of Walled Lake Western High School, where his musical abilities shined. He was a valued member of the Chamber Singers and Troubadours. His talents were also showcased onstage in various theater productions. Even prior to starting high school, Steven was cast in many plays and loved performing. At age 12, his first professional job was as the youngest dancer for the women's professional basketball team, Shock Wave, at the Palace in Auburn Hills.

After graduating High School, Steven went on to pursue the Performing Arts and became a professional dancer, choreographer and dance competition judge. He was able to travel extensively for work, first at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, then joining the crew of Celebrity Cruises and exploring the world.

Following his travels, Steven came home to Michigan and began enriching many young dancers lives as an instructor and mentor. At studios throughout Michigan he would teach Master Classes and help choreograph competition numbers. He traveled near and far as a competition judge, helping critique and aid thousands of young dancers. His dancers were like his children. He was never happier than when he was able to pass along his greatest passion in life to others. Steven spent seven years at American Dance Academy and currently was a valued member of Raedene's Dancin' Stars Studio and Rochester School of Dance. In addition to his many dance positions, he worked at Michigan Remediation Specialists, LLC for a high school classmate.

Steven was the beloved son of Dennis and Karen Barlow. Loving brother of Stephanie (Tyler) Ventre. Cherished grandson of Eugene Topping, the late Mary Topping and the late William and Ruth Barlow. Dear nephew of Kathy (Jack) Adkins , Kevin (Linda) Barlow, Paul (Tricia) Topping, Bill (Christine) Topping, Kathleen LaBranche and Daniel Topping. Steven is also survived by many loving cousins, extended family members, friends and students. He will be deeply missed by all those who were lucky enough to have known him.

Steven’s family will receive friends for a visitation on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 from 3-8 pm and Wednesday, March 20, 2019 from 3-8 pm, with a Rosary 7 pm, at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 340 N. Pontiac Trail (3 blocks south of Maple Rd) in Walled Lake.
