Obituary for Vada Mary Justen

Vada Mary Justen (nee: Fleck) of Brighton formerly of Bloomfield Twp. MI, was born on February 29, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio to Elmer Francis and Mary Ellen (nee: Perrin) Fleck. She died surrounded by her family, December 9, 2012 at the age of 88.

Vada is the beloved wife of 65 years to the late James (d. October 4, 2012). Loving mother of Janice (Michael) Cook, Joan (Timothy) Houran, Jane (Randy) Evans, Jennifer (Tim) Lynch, Josey Dovichi, James (Kathy) Justen, Jr. and June (Michael) Keane. She is the grandmother of Michael H. (Eydie Garland) Cook, Jr., Maggie A. (Roger) Watts, Matthew T. (Jamie Bishop) Cook, Mason A. Cook, Aimee (Chad) Pifer, Jeffrey (Kerry) Houran, Jessica M. Evans, Timothy (Jamie) Lynch, Jr., Kevin (Melissa) Lynch, Kathryn (Mark) Capstick, Jennifer (Tim) Lawrence, Bryan Dovichi, Erin Justen, Jill Justen, Lisa Justen, Jenna Keane, Brenan Keane, Bridget Keane and the late Edward James Keane. Great Grandmother of Eppie and Ellie Garland Cook, Brandon Michael Watts, Jacob, Alaina and Amanda Pifer, Carson and Isabella Houran, Ella, Brennan, Caroline, Henry, Addison and Livie Lynch, Kaden, Abigail and Lucy Capstick and Avery and Emerson Lawrence. Dear sister of the late Irene (the late Earl) Stechschulte. Dear sister in law of: Chuck (Lee) Justen, Eleanor (the late Verl) Hiller, Teresa (the late Joe) Deak, the late Joe (Ella Mae) Justen, Gerald (Grace) Justen, the late Catherine (the late Raymond) LaPlante, the late Frank (the late Kathy) Justen, and the late Rita (the late Don) Cameron. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews extended family members and friends, including her wonderful caregivers Lulu, Ellen and Sherry.

Jim and Vada met when Vada was Freshmen and Jim was a Junior at Central Catholic High School through Vada’s classmate and Jim’s sister Eleanor. Vada earned her Bachelor Degree from the University of Toledo and went on to model for Lasalle Department Store in Toledo. Jim and Vada were married May 30, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Church in Maumee, Ohio, and Vada gave up her business and modeling career to stay at home to raise their children. When Jim began his working career as an Advertising Executive with Burroughs they moved from Ohio to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and lived in their home on Quarton Rd. for 35 years before moving to Brighton. After Jim retired, they were able to enjoy traveling to many countries around the world. Jim and Vada enjoyed many other activities together including, golf, tennis, skiing, and of course entertaining with family and friends. Vada will be remembered fondly as an exemplary homemaker and seamstress who loved to entertain and host parties. She was also known for her ability to make perfect pie crusts. After Jim's death on October 4th of this year, Vada spent 65 days in the care of her loving family, but apart from her true love. They are now reunited together forever and their example of love, fidelity, and friendship toward each other after 65 years is truly an inspiration.

Funeral mass from St. Patrick Catholic Church 711 Rickett Rd. Brighton, MI Saturday 10:00 AM (In State 9:00 AM). Interment St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Brighton. Friends may visit Lynch & Sons Funeral Home 340 N. Pontiac Trail Walled Lake, MI (3 Blks. S. of Maple Rd.) Friday 3-9 PM (Vigil Service 7:30 PM).
