Obituary for Joseph E. Williams

Joseph E. Williams was born March 26, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan, died April 26, 2020 in Novi, Michigan at the age of 87 due to COVID-19 respiratory illness. He served in the Navy during the Korean conflict and completed his electrical engineering degree afterward from the University of Miami. He would later complete a master’s degree also. He retired after many years in the civil service working in management positions.

His wife, Ellen, died in 2016 before their 50th anniversary. He is survived by daughter, Lorraine (Jack) Williams, and sons Christian (Debra) McTurk and Chuck (Tammy) Williams. Also grandchildren, Aryn, Erica, Colin, Calleigh, and Nick. He is also survived by brother Gordon, and sister Margaret, and many loving nieces and nephews. Daughter, Elizabeth (Michael) O’Connor was deceased March, 2020

Joe was devoted to his family and will be deeply missed as a loving father and grandfather. He was an example of a life lived with principle, dignity and kindness. In retirement he stayed very active, especially golfing and even racked up three holes-in-one.

Even in his last years, he enthusiastically embraced every joy that came his way. He loved karaoke, and he loved being with people. He shared a kind loving spirit with so many residents and employees of his Fox Run retirement community. Per his wishes, he will be cremated, and a memorial gathering may be considered later in the year.
