Obituary for Judith Ann Day

Judy Day of Walled Lake passed away on 12/31/2020, after a brief illness, at the age of 80.  She was born to Alice and Robert E. Lee Day in Kansas City, MO and is survived by her sister, Barbara Otto, in Florida.

Judy moved to Michigan to start her career as a Teacher in the Walled Lake School District, where she later retired from.  In 1968, she was the winner of “My Favorite Teacher Award” presented by the Detroit News at Keith Elementary School.  Her passion for children continued over the years and was demonstrated through her genuine love of teaching, coaching, and officiating children in Local, State, and even Olympic Swim meets.  She pioneered the Walled Lake Swim Club in 1971-1972.  In 1973 she was the first swim coach at Walled Lake Central, taught school during the day, and also taught Aqua Tots and Pre-Beginners Swim classes at WLW's pool.

Judy received numerous awards from MHSAA over her 30+ years of service as a Michigan Athletic Official, was a Certified National Championship Swimming Official, and traveled the U.S. for swim meets, Olympic Team Trials, and  the Olympics in Atlanta.

Judy was a longtime member of Orchard Lake Community Church, Presbyterian where she served on the board of Presbyterian Women. She also supported South Oakland Shelter and Open Door Outreach Center with her church involvement.

There will be a Memorial celebration later in the year.  Anyone interested in Memorial Celebration details can email Julie at
