Obituary for William E. West

William E. West was born on April 11, 1932 in Berkley, Michigan. He was the second of three children born to the late Merle and Francis West.

In 1952, William enlisted in the United States Army. While deployed in Europe, he kept in contact with his future wife, Pat. Once back home, William and Pat married eventually settled in Commerce Township, Michigan. There they raised their family and settled into the neighborhood, having lived there over 60 years. An loving, kind and compassionate man he was an active father to his six children. Baseball was the family’s game, with William often being the kid’s coach. He was even the former GM for Lakes Area Baseball League.

Together with Pat, he loved to get outdoors and had a passion for camping. On nights and weekends the couple enjoyed line dancing and socializing with friends. Following retirement, William and Pat looked forward to traveling every winter to Texas. For fourteen years that was their winter home away from home,

William passed away on May 23, 2019 in Pontiac, Michigan at the age of 87. He will be deeply missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

William was the loving husband of Pat for 64 years. Cherished father of the late Dale (Michele) West, the late Bruce (Candy) West, the late Lynn (Larry) Baker, Roy (Chary) West, Kaye (Lynn) Rowe and Dawn Reimer. Proud grandfather of Steven (Ashley) Baker, Crystal Rowe, Nick (Chantell) Rowe, Amber (Ryan) Thomas, Robert (Penny) Baker, Brandy West, William R. West, Holly (John) Rinetamaki, Sarah (Bill) Kangas, Zachary (Shawn) Horton, Lyndsay (Butch) Reimer, Diana Reimer, Rhiannon Reimer and Barbara Reimer and great-grandpa to more than 20. Dear brother of the late Allen West and Frances Smith.

Private services for Mr. West will be held at a later date. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
